Through its partner First Merchant Bank Group (FMB Group) Prime Bank successfully acquired 52 per cent majority shareholding in Afcarme Zimbabwe Holdings (Pvt) Limited, the holding company for Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe (BBZ) from Barclays Bank PLC (BBPLC)

Private Placement

Prime Bank raises USD 10 million through a private placement.

2015

VISA Golf Card Launched

VISA Golf card launched in partnership with VISA, Kenya Golf Union, and Junior Golf Foundation.

Prime Bank partners with selected insurance companies to provide insurance products through Prime Merchant Insurance Agency.

Second runner-up Award. award by Think Business Banking Award for the Bank with lowest charges. Garden City Branch opened.

Achieved KSh. 2 billion net profit mark.

2014

Technological Advancement

The 2014 – 2018 strategic plan with the main focus in technological advancement is launched.

Secured USD 15 million credit from PROPARCO, a French DFI to support long-term lending.

Launched the Platinum Banking Centre and internet based platforms PrimeNet and PrimeMobi. Thika Branch opened.

Recognition as 1st runnerup – Best Bank in Tier III and 1st runner-up Bank with the Lowest Charges during the 9th Annual Banking Awards.

2013

From Flexcube to Finacle

The core banking system is upgraded from Flexcube to Finacle - a highend universal banking system.

The SME-lending programme starts in partnership with European Investment Bank. Gigiri Branch opened.

The new tag line ‘Putting You First’ introduced, reflecting the bank’s focus and commitment to offer the best to its customers.

Prime Chinese Yuan Account launched. Karen & Nakuru Branches opened.

The bank starts offering accounts in INR, USD, GBP and the Euro.

2010

2nd Runners-up Fastest Growing Bank

Awarded the 2nd runners-up for being the fastest growing bank during the 5th Annual Banking Awards. Kamukunji & Eldoret Branches opened.

CHIP and PIN cards launched.

Prime Bank builds an eye operation theatre at Lions Eye Hospital.

2009

Internet Banking Services

Prime Bank is recognized as a ‘large bank’ by the CBK.

Prime Bank starts offering internet banking services.

2008

Prime Capital Approval

Prime Bank’s bid for Prime Capital receives the CBK approval.

Prime Bank acquired a license from the Retirement Benefit Authority (RBA) and the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) to offer custodial services. Capital Centre and Nyali Branches opened.

Capital Bank in Botswana launched through First Merchant Bank.

Prime Bank Ltd. launches an efficient cash-management product for handling school fees payments.

2007

7 Day Banking

Seven-day banking, along with longer banking hours, initiated to fuel and compliment the steady growth of the business. Hurlingham Branch opened.

Global Credit Rating (GCR) company of South Africa rates Prime Bank high, implying the soundness of liquidity and fundamentals for prudent investments.

Signed an agreement with (IFC) which extended USD 1 billion

Global Trade Finance Program to support the emerging market of Kenya.

2006

Prime Bank Re-Brands

Prime Bank brand identity gets a face-lift, from dark blue, Prime Bank absorbs sky blue, symbolising depth and stability combined with loyalty and trust of our customers.

VISA-branded Prime debit and credit cards, accepted at all VISA approved outlets are made available to customers

Partnered with PesaPoint, Kenya’s largest independent ATM network.

Launched Prime Bank website www.primebank.co.ke to keep customers and members of the public updated.
